PNS day 29 – Ouchuga wooga!

Mysterious are the ways of my metabolism. After the weekend’s pizza flavored disaster, I hit the scales this morning and see that I’m back to my lowest-ever weight since starting PNS training. Woohoo!

Good workout this morning, the kind I end up drenched in sweat afterward. 30 minutes on the cross trainer, some weights (lever chest press and lever front pulldown), and then abs.

The trainer guy in the gym, who’s very experienced and obviously knows what he’s talking about, to judge by his bulging muscles, told me to concentrate on muscle stamina (20 reps at least in each set) rather than strength. I think I’ll do stamina reps on legs, back and shoulders, and strength or stamina and then strength on pushups and pullups.

Tomorrow morning I hit the pool. Looking forward to it.

Oh, and shapirac, I finished my Vorkosigan book last night and am now reading Heinlein’s Starship Troopers again. I’ll take motivation any damned place I can find it!

And there’s a reason for that! (I see the same thing happening to me.) When you’re ‘behaving’ and eating at a deficit, you’ll lose weight, but your metabolism will have kicked into a bit of ‘conservation’ mode. When you suddenly chow down, your body says, ‘WHOA! Maybe I’m NOT starving after all!’ And then kicks into gear. It has become very efficient, and it will efficiently take care of business.
It’s really pretty amazing! And if you’re exercising properly, you can let a few ‘freebies’ slide pretty easily. I know a gal who has ‘free Fridays’…she eats anything she wants on Fridays, and sees that metabolism kick once a week. Good luck!

To be fair, I’m aware of this effect – I just intentionally ignore it. Part of it is masochism and part of it is common sense. I never know how much is too much. It’s far to easy to justify having just another pizza slice. Instead of having to figure out how many slices is just right, I just don’t eat any slices (or eat a ridiculous ammount, like just two).

      Thanks, much appreciated!

  2. For workout motivation you may get some Clancy prose
In his late novels Tom Clancy had really nothing to add, so he started to describe physical workouts of his heroes.
